Asari-Dokubo wants Babangida, others prosecuted
For annulling June 12 presidential election in which the late MKO Abiola reportedly won, pro-democracy groups in Warri, Delta State, have called for the arrest and prosecution of the former military junta, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babanginda and his assoctates.
Various speakers at the rally to mark the June 12 election, stressed that the country was still being hunted by the ‘’hangover’’ of the annulment.
They also carried placards with various inscriptions such as ‘’Arrest Buhari Now’’, ‘’IBB why annulled the peoples’ will’’, ‘’Re-negotiate Nigeria Now, ‘’ ‘’Is Nigeria an artificial creation of British Empire?’’, ‘’On Goodluck Jonathan we stand’’, among others.
Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteers Force, Asari Dokubo, reiterated calls for the convocation of the Sovereign National Conference to determine the future of the country, stating that June 12 has come to represent one of the cardinal principles for his struggle.
Asari-Dokubo, who spoke through his media aide, Rex Anighoro, called on the government to arrest and prosecute IBB, Muhammadu Buhari and Abdulsalam, all former Heads of State, who he accused of playing vital roles in the annulment of the polls widely acclaimed as the freest and fairest in the history of the country.
He also called on the government to strip the former Heads of State of all the honours that had been accorded them, saying that they don’t stand for good things.
He reiterated earlier warning that the Niger Delta people would take drastic action if anything untoward happens to President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that the President has the inalienable right to contest the 2015 polls.
