My friend tricked me into robbery -Suspect

The usual excuses of armed robbers when caught were “this is my first time,” but this seems to have changed with the confession of an armed robbery suspect, Abiodun Olabode, who during interrogation by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, confessed how his friend tricked him to the robbery.
Olabode, in his plea, confessed that he never knew that his friend was a member of an Abeokuta-based gang of armed robbers.
“I came to Abeokuta because he said I should come to collect money, which he promised me, because I had earlier begged him to assist me.”
But the adamant 29-year-old, who refused to mention his friend’s name, explained that he was excited when his friend asked him to accompany him to a place where he would collect the money he would give him. Olabode said he had already arrived at the place, when he realised that he had slipped into troubled water with the countenance of the men he met.
During the robbery operation at Metro-Patrol of the PHCN installation at Oke-Efon axis, Abeokuta, some vigilant residents beat the robbers by alerting the NSCDC office after which a team quickly stormed the scene.
While other members of the gang escaped unhurt, Olabode could not, hence his arrest and the wild jubilation of the residents who showered praises on the NSCDC for their timely intervention that saved the day.
A resident who pleaded anonymity said “How the NSCDC officials operated that day was a reflection of the quality of their training. We know another law enforcement agent that would rather give us an excuse than coming to rescue us from the robbers,” the source said.
One short gun and one Nokia phone were recovered from the scene, but Olabode maintained that he knew nothing about the items.
The NSCDC commandant, Ogun State Command, Akinwande Aboluwoye, is set to deploy more men to the government owned installations to ward off the vandals.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the command, Kareem Olanrewaju, the commandant had also ordered the immediate transfer of Olabode to a sister agency for further investigation and prosecution.
